The Perfection of Adam

The Perfection of Adam EP was conceived with the idea of making a funky, ambient sound that would give the original lyrics the edge that I wanted to portray as a woman.  These lyrics and music was inspired by strong women who gave me strength when listening to their music, Kate Bush’s ‘Babaooska’ (1980) was strange and ethereal version of experimental pop/rock, in the chord of D minor but with a complexity that is rare in pop music, this music was like nothing else; it was so good that she was strange, Babooska is a masterpiece. Annie Lennox, ‘Sisters Are Doing It for Themselves’ (1985) with Aretha Franklin, a danceable pop anthem that is in the key of F minor.  Yoko Ono’s ‘Yes, I’m a Witch’ (2007) is an electro pop,/rock are powerful anthems musically and have real power for women. Yoko is also an inspiration as an artist from Fluxus to conceptual art.  I was also inspired by Klaus Nomi’s operatic rock version of ‘You Don't Own Me’ (1981) as I feel that is the underlying theme of this EP.  The lyrics are original, the music has been made with AI assistance, and this is something that is a cause of sadness for all musicians as the war rages on, the algorithm stealing music, art, writing and then rebirthing it in a new form for anyone to use.  I do wonder, and in many ways despair, of the future and where we will find skills and talent that are true.  So I made this, but in the words of George Harrison, ‘my guitar gently weeps’.
